While I have not met my new students yet, I can tell you that they attend a Title I school, that many live in low income housing, and some even in shelters. Some will speak only Spanish, and most will be in a school environment for the very first time. However these sweet little five year olds will all walk through the doors of my classroom with the same goal; to learn and have fun doing it!
These students will be charming, smart, sweet, little 5- and 6-year-old children who come to school every day craving knowledge.
These kiddos will come in the door ready to learn and have fun. They will laugh, cry, hug, giggle, play, and learn all in one place: their classroom. Therefore, I am eager and ready to help them achieve their dreams.
My Project
Kindergarten is the most wonderful time in a young child's life. They are full of wonder and curiosity. They like to touch and explore everything they see. However, they are also full of MOVEMENT! But that's how they learn!
I want to give them everything they need to learn in the way that works best for them!
I am requesting bouncy bands for some of the chairs for those kiddos who need to move and shuffle their feet. The Chair Sox, IE Tennis Balls, are for two reasons. One to keep the bouncy bands in place but also to keep the noise of scraping chairs to a minimum. I have also requested two types of textured alphabet cards. These are for those children who need to touch to learn and retain. By sliding their finger over the raised surface as they say the letter/sound it will help them retain that information to use later as they read and write.
As I said before Kindergarten is a wonderful time. I want to make it memorable!
