My students need chairs to be placed around the room so they have a choice where to learn best and not to always be in their chairs at their desks. These chairs allow them that choice.

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are a group of vivacious, energetic and forward-thinking individuals! We like being outdoors, moving and cooperating with each other when we are learning. We are also very diverse. We come from many different countries and speak many different languages. We enjoy learning from each other and understanding different perspectives.

Learning is always fun in our classroom!

We do many cooperative learning activities and love to learn and move around the room. We do our best when we learn from each other and share the idea that we all have something to give to others. We are very supportive and encouraging of each other with our words and actions. You will often hear my students say to each other, "You can do this!"

My Project

The bean bag chair, I plan on using as my relaxation station for those students that need a moment to collect themselves if they are feeling overwhelmed and reflect on their feelings so they can return to learning with fresh eyes and a refreshed brain. It is important for everyone, child and adult alike, to have a moment to pause and think about their feelings and how to proceed.

Flexible seating let the students decide where and how to learn and sit, not learn to sit.

I have many students that cannot sit at their desks all day long and need a change of scenery. And this movement, even in the confines of the classroom, is helpful for their brains to have a break and be reinvigorated to learn and apply their understanding. I will put the chairs around the room.
