Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first graders are awesome! They come to school with a smile on their face and a positive mood regardless of what else is going on in their lives.
Our school is in an urban part of Sacramento where 85% of our students qualify as low-income.
For my students to thrive and be contributing members of society in the 21st Century Global Economy they NEED to be familiar with technology. Unfortunately, my students have limited resources. My classroom shares 1 computer cart with 4 other 1st grade classrooms. This means we get it once a week. I want my students to have access to the technology they need every day.
Most of my students don't have access to a computer at home and/or WiFi so the classroom is a crucial place to practice the skills they'll need later in their education and life.
My Project
Technology is sparse in my school district and sharing one computer cart between 5 classrooms just isn't going to cut it anymore.
These 6 Chrome Books will be used every day in my classroom in station format.
I have 24 students and will have 4 stations -differentiated by levels- going at the same time. This allows me to have a teacher led station to support learning, but will also give my students time to work at their own pace.
Our new ELA curriculum requires students to have access to technology to read books and engage in interactive learning activities. I don't want my students to be without and continue widening the achievement gap.
