This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Title I campus with great diversity in the student body. Many of my students come from low income families, which puts them "at risk.” I have students of many nationalities, ethnic and socioeconomic status. My students range from never having spoken English to those who are very well read, well spoken, and could do work at a collegiate level if given the opportunity. I also have special needs, learning disabled, intellectually disabled and gifted and talented students. All of this diversity is every period of every day.
When I talk to my students about careers, many of them feel that all they have to offer the world is their athletic ability.
They don't necessarily receive the message that they can pursue their passions and be paid for it. They are also unfamiliar with nontraditional careers, technical certifications, and the difference between a job and a career. They feel their career options are limited to what they have been exposed to: retail, medicine, and sports. They come to me largely unaware of the immensely varied options available to them in their futures.
My Project
Using Edmodo and Google classroom, students will use the requested Chromebooks to create products based on things they learn in class. They will explore the information that today's technology has made readily available, and gain technical skills in order to become independent learners. They will use the 1:1 technology to build learning and career portfolios and gain the skills and confidence to become and remain successful in their education, and future work environments.
Successful and efficient use of technology is a crucial skill to succeed in the 21st century.
Using technology in my classroom, students will achieve college and career readiness and obtain skills that they would not otherwise be able to obtain.
