I have 25 energetic, spunky, amazing third graders.
We are located in a small, rural area by a reservation. We welcome a wide range of Native American and Hispanic students. Seventy percent of our students qualify and receive free and reduced lunch. We love and embrace diversity. I am fortunate to work with students who love to learn and want to be at school. I love being a teacher and enjoy how much I learn from each of my students.
My Project
I have a student that was continually getting in trouble for wondering around the classroom and not staying in his seat. As a teacher I don't mind when they stand to learn but when they start wondering it becomes a problem. It distracts everyone. I borrowed a hokki stool from a colleague and he stayed in his seat ALL day long! He asked if this could be his chair for the rest of the year because he felt he thought harder that day. If it can have that much influence on one special needs child, I have several more that need this same experience. I have 4 special education students and 5 ADHD students that this hokki stools and bouncy bands will help focus their learning.
I strive to meet the needs of all of my students and help them feel successful.
I know that if they could bouncy their energy in a positive way they will pay attention more and reach their full potential.
