Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 6th and 7th grade Bronx middle school students!
Students will develop leadership skills through academic achievement, pro-active citizenship, and community service, and they will understand how these skills can transform the individual, a community, and a society.
Many students are immigrants and are tasked with learning United States history while also learning a new language.
This school incorporates the arts into their curriculum, and I intend to carry their passion for art into our classroom with many projects to support historical learning.
My Project
These materials will help students discover, explore, create and learn about America and her history! A major theme this year will learning about how history studies the relationship between Geography and Culture. Students will learn about American history through the lens of different regions and peoples including Native American histories, Colonial America, the Civil War and many more!
Our class community will frequently share knowledge with each other via poster projects.
In order to be efficient historians, students will highlight main ideas in documents, and use evidence on their posters to support their claim.
Additional paper and posters will be used for other projects, such as creating their own political cartoons!
