This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are exceptional needs preschoolers of poverty with a wide range of disabilities (Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down Syndrome, sensory processing disorders, chromosome abnormalities, orthopedic impairments, vision impairments, developmental delays, and speech-language delays). They thrive on learning new skills and light up when each new step is achieved. We celebrate each of their small steps toward success.
Despite their struggles, they are mighty, energetic and most importantly, able to succeed!
Most of my students function on a 12-month to 36-month developmental age, and lack many fine and gross motor skills compared to their same-age peers.
My Project
My students need the Learning Alive Plus Suite software system to help them build early math and literacy skills. The interactive stories, letters, numbers and animal cards included with the set provide a plethora of learning opportunities for all types of learners to be successful no matter their learning struggles.
Learning Alive brings letters and numbers to life through a 3D augmented reality experience while providing meaningful learning experiences for the visual, kinesthetic and auditory learner.
Technology has become an important tool in the special education classroom to meet to individual needs of our learners as a tool for communication or a doorway toward social interactions. Once those doors are opened we aim to provide the most opportunities for learning, so our students can gain the needed skills to be successful individuals.
