Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the lucky fourth-grade teacher to 24 students in a diverse science magnet school where more than 15 languages are spoken throughout our population. More than 38% of the students here speak a second language at home. We are the largest of 12 elementary schools in the district, serving over 600 students in a low-income area of Connecticut.
These students look forward to coming to school every day ready to learn something new and having the comfort to feel safe in my classroom.
My Project
Help me give my students access to the tools they will need to be successful this school year. We are going back to school and our classroom will be in a cafeteria, along with 4 other classes. Although partitions will be up to divide the room, this will still cause distractions for my students learning. Even at home, I found many students to become distracted from noises in their home. Having noise cancelling headphones will help my students to refrain from the many distractions around them.
Along with noise and distraction comes transportation.
My students need to be able to transport their Chromebooks back and forth each day from school to home. I want to be sure their Chromebooks are protected with sleeve protectors, no matter where learning may occur.
Finally, we all know Chromebooks can come with technical issues. One of the many issues that has risen in the past was the freezing of Chromebooks and students needing a mouse to click the keys and work from them. My students need USB mouses and mouse pads to successfully complete their work.
