Learning About Wants And Needs Through Our Class Economy
My students need books to help teach about wants and needs and play money, cash boxes, pencil pouches, and prizes to create a classroom economy and bank to teach personal and financial literacy.
My students are in first grade. If you walked into my classroom you would see that it is filled with eager learners who come in each day ready to learn in new and different ways. My students love to be challenged and strive to grow every day.
In my first-grade classroom, every student is valued and brings something special to our room.I love being part of a classroom where the students feel like school is their second home and a place where they treat each other like family.
My Project
Most students in my classroom do not understand the value of money. They get money, spend money, and then want more money. I want to help my students understand the value of money by allowing them to learn how to save and when to spend.
By creating a classroom economy, students will be encouraged to save money for Kelley-Mart items they want and feel the sense of pride that comes along with working hard to achieve it!
Students will be paid "Kelley Bucks" each week for the positive Class Dojo points they earn. This will be a great way to increase positive classroom behaviors. Students will keep up with their Kelley Bucks using their pencil pouch. Each week students will have the opportunity to shop at Kelley-Mart where store associates will set-up the store using the prizes and clear bins. Associates will keep up with totals and will make change using the cash boxes. My kids will come up with the prices for all the items at Kelley-Mart
This project will be a great way to teach personal and financial literacy! I can't wait to see Kelley-Mart in action!
