My students need hand puppets to enhance their learning of rain forest animals (and conservation) with dramatic play.

I teach K-4 Spanish in a Title I school in Muskegon, Michigan. We are a small district, with a diverse population and needs. I teach Spanish to all of the classes in my building, which is 16 classes a year, about 400 students. I have them every other day for 36 minutes, so any project that is funded will be well used! With the current climate in our state, our funds are tight to keep our successful early language program going. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I am requesting a set of rain forest puppets to engage my students through speaking and dramatic play. I have found that students are more motivated with novelty, manipulatives, and storytelling. When students are more engaged, they are more likely to acquire another language.
These puppets will have a variety of uses.
We will first identify and describe the animals in the rainforest, as well as the layer(s) they live in. We will then talk about what products come from the rainforest so that students can get an idea of how it connects to their life. This segues into conservation efforts for the declining rain forests. We then conclude with a presentation describing an animal in Spanish.
Every part of our unit can include these puppets. We can use them for many activities to practice describing the animals, as this takes many repetitions to acquire this vocabulary. We will be able to do a reader's theater-style practice of the animals and their habitat in the rainforest. Finally, we are starting to integrate technology by taping their speaking presentations. These will be the cherry on top for these videos!
Thank you so much for considering my proposal. My students will be ecstatic to use these in class!
