Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I'm serving are considered to have low-socioeconomic backgrounds which is why most of the students in our school qualify for a free or reduced lunch. Not only that, our school is separated from most neighborhoods, so most students have to be bused in. That makes it hard to meet after school which means my students are willing to give up their lunch time to come and participate in activities. Most of our activities have to meet in class or during lunch.
My Project
Students go through most of their school careers thinking money is earned through getting a job but owning your own business is a great option for those who are willing to do the hard work. My students will learn basics of creating a product, testing the market and reducing costs to maximize profits by using a 3d printer to create a sellable item.
Students will stop thinking of themselves as consumers but focus on being producers by creating something that solves a problem they have.
They will design an item to solve their problem and calculate how much is should be sold for. This lesson will help them see that owning a business is more than just selling something they've made. It will help them see all the costs associated with a single product.
