Help me give my students bleeding tissue paper, Mini Heart Doilies, Foam Craft Hearts, Metallic Color Oil Pastels and Wood Stylus Tools for various Valentine's Day projects.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach art to a wonderful group of students in Pre-k - Grade 5. When my students see me in the hallway, they stop me and want to know what the next art project is. I have made it my mission to bring the best art supplies, technology, and art enrichment to my students.
We are a Title I school because 90% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
We strive to help meet the needs of every student. We have academic clubs, after-school tutoring, and daily academic pull-out programs. Our students also have an after-school sports club with the local police to build teamwork and positive experiences in the community. These additional programs have helped our students, and they have done well on standardized tests.
We also have a well-rounded specials program with art, P.E., and media.
My Project
Do you remember when you were young and made a Valentine's Day Card? Valentine's Day is an exciting holiday and tradition. I want to bring the best supplies to my students so they can make special cards for family and friends at various centers in my art room.
I have planned a Tissue Paper Heart Center where students rip and tear the bleeding tissue paper requested and place on heart paper shapes.
They use a paint brush and brush water over the tissue paper so it will bleed and create new colors. Students will be amazed when they lift the tissue paper off the hearts and see the colorful affects created.
Another center planned is a Mini Heart Doilie Center. Students will use the Heart Doilies requested and glue to red, white and pink heart and circle papers. Students can write messages of friendship, love and kindness. They can glue Foam Craft Hearts requested to embellish the hearts.
Students will also get to create a homemade scratch art paper using Metallic Color Oil Pastels. After students designs shapes on hearts with the pastels, they can scratch out designs using the Wood Stylus Tools. This is an exciting and cost effective technique to make this paper design.
