Help me give my students these wooden figures to incorporate into the classroom to extend their learning and understanding of the community and diversity.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My friends are all at least 4 years of age, and will be going into kindergarten next year. They are fun loving, creative, outgoing, smart, funny, and imaginative individuals. The majority of them have a first language other than English, so they are also learning English while they are here. Many of them don’t have yards where they are able to go and enjoy the outdoors, or use their gross motor skills. Along with learning key skills for going to kindergarten, we still like to teach through the use of play. The friends enjoy this play time and learn so many valuable skills that they will need to be able to flourish in their later education. Through play, I am able to provide them with a want and love of learning!!
My Project
The different block people from different cultures, as well as the different abilities and community workers block people will help them to be able to explore different people they might encounter in their own community. While playing with these materials they will also be able to use the houses to create their won community. Through this type of play they will develop a respect for all people in their community, ones that are similar to them as well as ones that are different from them. The children all come from different backgrounds, and could greatly benefit from all these materials!
