Hooray! This project is fully funded

I teach in a special education inclusion classroom in a Title I public school in Brooklyn. Every student receives free breakfast and lunch. Inclusion means that about half of the students are considered to have special needs and the other half are members of the mainstream, general education population. I have many ESL students as well as students with various physical, learning, and emotional disorders in my 4th grade classroom. It's a wonderfully diverse group and they love to study social studies! There are so many great opportunities for these students to understand American history through art and craft projects. Many of my students excel in arts despite the struggles they have with reading and writing. Making a quilt depicting important scenes from colonial life in America would be such a great learning experience for the whole class. It would be a truly inclusive activity that allowed every student to succeed. The final quilt project would also be an excellent representation of unity in our classroom. Any project that combines the work of all the studnets (both general and special ed) increases self-esteem and a sense of teamwork in our truly special class. I've requested fabric crayons and pastels, since I can provide the fabric and sewing supplies from materials I use in my own hobby work. This gift would provide a truly unique and memorable learning experience for this class and the ones to come. Thanks for taking the time to read this proposal. Your interest in public education and these children is appreciated and respected.
