Learnin' My Letters and Numbers Rug

My students need a carpet for carpet time. The rug we had was 20-25 years old and too large and shabby for our room. This rug will be perfect for our carpet time.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school in Bedford County, Shelbyville, Tennessee. My students come to me with a wide range of learning abilities. We need this rug so that we can gather to learn as a whole group, and so it can be used as a station area for students who need reminders when they are doing activities with numbers and letters, as it has the numbers 1 through 10 and the letters of the alphabet on it. Despite their diversity and daily hardships, they are eager to learn and willing to try everything I ask of them.

At this point in the year, they are learning the letters and sounds of the alphabet and this rug will be perfect for them to interact with the rug.

I love each of my students and all of their unique personalities. I am so proud of the sense of community we can develop on this rug. I know they will enjoy a new area in which to learn, and will be proud to take ownership of our new rug. They will be responsible for keeping i clean and neat, and will be very productive students as they use it.

My Project

With this rug, I believe my students will be happier and more productive. They will take ownership of the rug and learn to be more responsible for personal property. Our class will be able to interact in carpet time with the rug.

My class is very excited to see if we will be able to get our project funded!

They remind me daily to check our goal. I believe this also teaches my students the importance of having a giving heart, and a feeling that intrinsic reward. We would be so excited to receive this new, colorful interactive alphabet and letters rug.
