My students need a variety of flexible seating options. Wobble stools, balance balls and comfortable floor seats will allow them to choose a seat that meets their individual need.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This will be my first year teaching 2nd grade at our school. I’m going to have the honor of serving sixteen students. We are a Title I school and our students face many economic hardships that create challenges. Our school is dedicated to helping our children succeed by providing them with access to the best possible education. Our district believes that smart is something you become and that every child in our system will leave college, career and citizen ready.
My Project
It is challenging for young students to stay seated during the school day. Offering them this variety of options for seating will allow for both motion and comfort, which helps them to simultaneously meet their physical need to move and mental need to focus. It will also give them the gift of choice. When a student is provided the opportunity to choose what is best for them, it gives them the chance to take ownership in their educational experience. Our school strives to give students “voice and choice” as much as possible during their day in order to help them take ownership, responsibility, and pride in what they do.
