Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a full inclusion kindergarten class in CA. The students in my classroom come from diverse backgrounds. There are 25 students in the class, eight of whom have been identified as having autism. Many of my students are English language learners and come with rich language backgrounds in Vietnamese and Spanish. Over 90% of the students are free or reduced-price lunch families, and we are a Title I school. While the group is very diverse, one thing is for sure, they all have a passion for learning.
In a full inclusion classroom, we serve students with and without disabilities, together, in the same classroom in order to provide a rich social-emotional and education environment for ALL students.
Many of our students require adapted and differentiated materials in order to access the curriculum and daily activities. All students learn compassion and acceptance of differences throughout the school year. The experience is beneficial for everyone! Everyone wins!
My Project
Many times, if you can imagine, students come into school without being read too. This project will allow for students to see examples of stories they can relate to and stories they can write about.
It is always exciting to see how students create their pictures and it helps me get a better understanding of their developmental level.
That's why the ultimate crayon holder will help all the students get their creativity going because they will have any color they need or can think of. They will be able to add details to the many works of art and writing they will create this school year.
