This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I service students in grades K-2 daily that are functioning below grade level.
I would like to see the students grow at least one grade level by the end of the year. I don't consistently have a printer to print the books for the children.
"Learn to Read so that you Read to Learn"
The students that I service are very excited and enthusiastic about learning to read and/or becoming better readers.
They are good students who have a desire to learn to read. The students are from different backgrounds. Some don't have the support and resources at home to support reading. The makeup of our school is slowly transitioning into a diverse population. It is a Title I school in the suburbs. The principal along with the staff focus on making sure everything we teach is intentional.
My Project
Many of my students do not have access technology or at home libraries to build reading fluency. The printer will be used to create printable take-home books. Each night students will receive a new book to take home to read to their parents. These books will be differentiated based each child's individual reading and specific skill level.
Using a printer to print take home books will enable my students with an opportunity to have their own reading library at home.
My objective is to instill a love for reading while learning is occurring in school and home life.
