This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 1st grade in a very low socio-economic school. Our school has a very diverse population with at least 40% of the students english learners.

Learning to read is one of the hardest things for 5 and 6 year olds to do especially when they have limited exposure to text prior to coming to school.

Our class has created a song that includes all of the sound spelling combinations necessary for them to become fluent readers. However, students need to practice this song over and over to help them become fluent readers.

Your help in providing us a digital recorder will allow me to record my students singing the song. I can then download it on my computer and make a CD for every student to listen to at home and/or in the car.
