Help me give my students ukuleles! This musical instrument would help engage students in making music and would open up ensemble opportunities for them.
Our school is a wonderful Title I school located in East Anchorage nestled at the base of the Chugach mountains. Our staff members are a dedicated group of professionals who are proud of the diversity that our families bring to our school.
My students are so engaged in creating music together.
I believe that making music as a group teaches us about life and the world around us. Music covers many skills that will serve students well throughout their lives.
My Project
Students will learn how to tune, strum, play rhythmic accompaniment, and sing while playing. Playing the ukulele will help them with hand coordination and help them practice reading music.
Learning ukulele will help my students grow musically, socially, and emotionally.
My students will develop teamwork by playing together. They will be able to express themselves creatively through making their own songs.
Playing the ukulele will highlight the science of sound. Students will be able to see the string becoming shorter in length to create a higher pitch.
Students can learn about the culture and history of the ukulele. They can also learn about the development of the instrument, how it is made, how sound is produced, and what events were occurring at the time.
