Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm a new teacher in Long Beach. I work at a school where 92% of students are eligible receive free lunch. In my classroom, I have a substantial number of students who are English Language Learners. My students truly enjoy being at school and learning. Despite their challenging circumstances, they come to school ready to learn, and persevere through their problems. It is my goal to provide them with hands-on learning activities that will address every type of learner.
I firmly believe in equity over equality.
Each of my students has the potential to succeed and thrive in school. It is my job as a teacher to provide a level playing field for each student so that they may achieve their highest potential.
My Project
As a new teacher, I have a very small library. The books I do have, are used and worn thin. I have some students who enjoy reading and will ask me to read during recess. However, I have some students who have not yet found the love for reading.
It is my mission as a teacher, to show my students the joy of reading.
If I provide them with books that interest them, I'm hoping it will spark a passion for books. Many of them do not get the chance to go to the library with their families. I would like to bring the library to them.
