My students are ready and eager to improve their reading skills. The requested classroom magazines are high interest reading materials that are engaging and Common Core aligned, to aid in improving their reading comprehension. The students I teach are special because they are from many different backgrounds, cultures, and individual circumstances that make it extra difficult to succeed academically.
The majority of the students I teach lack the financial resources to buy basic school supplies. However with all the odds against them they find a way to show up for school everyday and eager to learn. Some of them have no support from family and therefore it is even more imperative for me to find the necessary resources so they can reach academic success. I try to teach my students that they can become anything they set their mind to through the power of education. I live by my own words that, "You do not chose what you are born into but you do determine what you become through the power of education."
My Project
These magazines will make a dramatic impact in the students’ learning because the magazines are of high interest sparking a love for reading. Students complain all the time they do not like to read so I researched this further and found the reading material is boring. The Storyworks Magazines are filled with topics that interest students according to their age and grade level. Furthermore these magazines are leveled for struggling and limited language learners. These magazines will enable students from various backgrounds and levels to read with support to strengthen their comprehension and therefore enable a love for reading. Read!
