We are a community-based educational program designed to assist those in a residential setting as well as from the community. Our program is a collaborative effort between students, cooperating school districts, and the community. Our students have been unsuccessful in their "home district" and have come to us for support/guidance and quality education.
Our curriculum consists of multiple learning activities through textbooks, technology, real-world settings and experiences, as well as community outings.
We love to use technology in our classroom and have finally pestered Google enough and now are participating in Google education. We are slowly advancing into the new technology for education. We are persistent and driven for success.
Our school is an alternative learning setting that currently serves 12 different schools in the county. Most students come from single-parent homes and are in need of more individualized attention. Our students attend a separate school due to emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities. They often feel like they have been forgotten about and are unable to be successful.
We need assistance with our educational needs, and we are hoping that you may be the one who believes in us and helps us achieve our goals.
My Project
The Classroom Drum Circle provides healing benefits, boosts self-confidence, and gives students an enhanced role in their own music education. The drum circle offers equality as everyone is equal in beating their own drum. The drum circle reduces anxiety, pain, and even a distraction to grief. The drumming provides a release of endorphins, which are the natural painkillers. Building social skills is an important part of school's unwritten curriculum. Children often learn through modeling skills and behaviors, from sharing toys or crayons to accepting and appreciating the differences in other students.
Drumming provides a hand-on demonstration of how to work as a group, interact on an equal level and become a full part of the cooperative illustration that the drums can provide as students each add a unique voice to a collective song.
Furthermore, these social skills help build self-confidence as well as a feeling of belonging among peers.
Music therapy has shown significant improvements for those with disabilities and impairments that affect daily living.
