Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This fall, I will be starting my third year teaching at this school. As a kindergarten teacher, this will be my students' first classroom experience. I have 24 students in my classroom who come from various backgrounds and experiences with early childhood education.

My students come from low-income homes, some have never read a book, others speaking little to no English, and all qualify for free or reduced price lunch.

Our school is a Turnaround Arts School, located in Seaside, California. We use arts education and integration as a strategic tool to improve academics, decrease disciplinary problems, and promote a positive learning environment.

My Project

With so many of my students being English Language Learners, the need for small group instruction and stations is a must. While I work with a small group of students, it is important that my students are engaged in meaningful work/activities independently. My students will be able to take charge of their own learning through utilizing the alphabet name and sound teaching manipulatives such as the alphabet learning locks and rocket building activity. My students will also enjoy completing their work in the classroom as they are engaging, meaningful, and easily accessible.
