When you are a Kindergarten teacher, you learn the “special secrets” to get your twenty-one, wide-eyed students to smile, clap their hands, and scream, “I love you teacher!” Without fail, no matter how many times they are used, the same phrases get this great response: “We are going to paint today\" or \"We are going to use markers\" or \"Let's use clay!\" That's it! You have now learned the special secrets of a Kindergarten teacher. However, it has become harder to get the smiles, claps, and screams lately because my class is running so low on basic materials. I am in desperate need for these magic ingredients; crayons, markers, watercolors, glue sticks, clay, dry erase markers, tape, drawing paper, writing paper, construction paper, and baskets (for books and art supplies). Arts and crafts time is extremely important to a young child's education because it helps develop motor skills, self-confidence, and creativity. I work in East New York, Brooklyn. Although everyone gives as much as they can, both the school and parents are lacking enough funds to supply their children with these basic early childhood materials. With your help, my class can refuel on the basic classroom supplies it needs so badly. These simple magic items that help these little hands and imaginations grow. Can you remember the last time you made twenty-one people smile, applaud, and scream, “I love you” simply by giving them a box of crayons? If only it was this easy to make everyone in the world happy!
