Learn the Power of Reading

Help me give my students current Scholastic news magazines and graphic novels to encourage their reading skills during free-reading time and to incorporate into our lessons!

My Students

I work with high school students with learning disabilities who need to improve their reading skills. Many of my students also have to help out at home and work, not leaving lots of time for homework or other growth activities.

I would like to turn every student in my classroom into a "reader" for the first time in their lives.

My students need more time with explicit instruction reading programs (which our school provides), but also with books that interest them which are readily available in the classroom. Matching up my students with a book that they can enjoy and which gives them insight into the world of reading will help them tremendously!

My Project

We will use the Scholastic News magazines for both class lessons and free-read time. Because of the wide range of reading levels, we need two news magazines for class sets. The students will be allowed to choose to read the graphic novels during free-read time and also check them out.

Please help my high school students have lots of up-to date reading materials in the classroom; the Scholastic news magazines and the graphic novels are always hot-ticket items!

My non-readers especially love graphic novels because they are thick and the covers look cool, just like what every high school student is reading!
