My students need a rowing machine, yoga blocks, kettlebells, and stability ball sets to exercise while in the program so they can spend energy wisely and be ready to learn!
Our school is unique, a short-term, non-residential intervention program for students in the city of Boston in grades 6-12 that violate the code of conduct for an expellable offense.
Our program utilizes Social Emotional Learning curriculum, a multi-disciplinary educational and counseling approach that provides students with the ability to assess risk, consider potential consequences, and enhance decision-making skills by teaching alternatives to violence related behaviors.
We work hard with schools in the district to help our young citizens make smarter choices!
My Project
We all know how important exercise is for our bodies, mind, and soul. Daily activity keeps us happy and healthy because when we exercise we produce endorphins, a chemical that promotes our well-being. Exercise also helps lower depression and boost self-esteem. Experts suggest that a teen should get at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day.
By giving our students an opportunity to exercise while completing the Succeed Boston program we believe we will be fostering their social emotional learning capacity by promoting a healthy body and brain and in consequence creating a better experience.
With your support we will transform a classroom into a "mindfulness" room where we will hold yoga classes and circuit classes also with a combination of weight lifting and cardio. We are hoping to be able to buy a rowing machine and some kettle bells for these classes as well as stability balls. We already received a donation of yoga mats from the Health and Wellness department of BPS.
