My third grade students live in a rural community, where the entire elementary population receives free lunch. Our school consists of self-contained, open classrooms. The students come from diverse backgrounds with a strong desire to learn and be challenged in new and exciting ways! They seize opportunities, and are excited by new perspectives and additions to our classroom. Classroom instruction includes highly engaging, hands-on activities to keep students focused and motivated. My students are in need of opportunities to build a strong educational foundation that will benefit them their entire lives.
My Project
The products in this project would allow my students to engage in math & reading in a new and fun way. The playing cards can be used as flash cards or two (or more) students can play a game with them. The self correcting puzzles and flip cards will allow students to work independently as they will be able to check their own work.
When students use manipulatives, they are able to better understand the concept they are expected to learn.
The students' reading levels and their future math scores will be the measure of academic success.
I will also have the capability to send items home in "bring back bags" for home skill practice. I can only teach so much during the hours I have the children, I need to have parents continuing that learning at home. Their home life will improve because their parents will now have the resources and knowledge on how to help their kids.
