My students need take-it-to-your-seat literacy centers, comprehension and magnetic activity centers, and a place to store them to help them become active, engaged and excited readers!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you know how it feels to be expected to do something but not have what you need to reach the expectation? My students need to learn how to read and solidify their reading comprehension with practice but they simply don't have the tools to do so.
These 26 2nd graders are kind, funny, eager to learn and ready to make a difference.
They attend a high-poverty school in the District of Columbia, where they are constantly being encouraged to work hard for their dream of attending college. Many of them started they year significantly below grade level but they are working hard to change this!
My Project
I am requesting several independent center activities and activity books for my students. These activities have literacy strategies that they can practice and master to help them succeed. I can imagine the smile on my student's faces when they realize that they sounded out a CVC word. This project will give many more of my students reasons to smile. They can have new, exciting ways to enrich their lives through literacy and language. By being able to work independently on activities that match their needs, I can allow them to explore the exciting world of language!
This project being funded will totally change the lives of my 26 students this year.
They will be able to read and know that they can read, and PRACTICE reading. Many of them aren't able to complete independent activities, but with centers and activities such as these, they will be able to!
