I teach in a small rural school where the majority of our students are from low income families. However, this does not stop them from being so eager to learn. My students come in my classroom every morning and the first thing they always seem to ask is what fun things are we going to do today! The best part is, all of those "fun things" are filled with educational lessons! I love how they learn and don't even consider it to be learning! We do a lot of hands on learning using a variety of different learning tools.
Due to being such a small, low income school district, the teachers do not get much funding for our classrooms.
I have to be creative and make a lot of my projects and fund my own classroom supplies. I do try to go to workshops in order to get some hands on materials but you very rarely get a classroom set of anything!
With donors like you, I will be able to better prep my classroom for current and future learners!
My Project
The materials that I have listed will not only show the student's how to make the letters, such as straight lines and curved lines, but they will also allow the student's to be engaged while learning how to form them themselves in a variety of ways.
The giant magnetic letters will allow them to construct the letters while the chalkboards will give them an opportunity for them to trace letters with their fingers or chalk, erase the letters with the sponges and dry the letters with the pom-poms in the same manner as how you form the letter, and then they can write the letters with their chalk.
By having a variety of ways to do hands on repetition will not only allow the student to stay engaged during the lessons but it also gives them lots of practice.
