Our state has one of the highest obesity ratings in the country. My students need to learn how to play and get fit as part of their every day routine. On beautiful, sunny days, we can run and climb outside but we need opportunities to move and be active every day.
My students attend a full day pre-Kindergarten program.
Eighty percent of our students live with poverty. Some of their opportunities are limited but they have eager and enthusiastic attitudes. They demonstrate boundless energy to learn through play and deserve the best head start to a healthy lifestyle that they may receive.
My Project
Our pre-Kindergarten class is self contained so I am responsible for all aspects of the student's education, including fitness education. Naturally four year olds like to run and play but during rainy, cold days, our outside play opportunities are limited. I want to bring fun, challenging physical activities inside to encourage all of my students to exercise through play every day. My students need color cones, balance boards, a hopscotch carpet, parachute, rope, and a play tunnel to learn good fitness habits for every day. I hope to engrain that physical movement is a daily habit.
