My students face many challenges at home and at school. All of them come from low income families and most are first generation immigrants trying to seek a better life. These students come to school each morning, some with hunger and emotional distress, wanting to learn about the world around them.
My kindergarten classroom is composed of little people eager to learn.
They want to know things that go beyond the letters and numbers. Their greatest concern is finding the answer to the simple questions that begin with “Why”. There is no greater accomplishment in teaching than encouraging students to seek out these answers. My students ask “why” and it is my job to encourage them to find these answers.
I love teaching kindergarten because I get to be the first introduction into what school is all about. I hope to instill the love of learning , feed their curiosity and encourage them to seek the answers to their never ending questions. My students give me hope for the future each time I get to witness that lightbulb moment I know there is hope for a better future.
Scholastics Lets Find Out and Science Spin magazines encourages students to think critically, ask question and make a connection to the world around them. The combination of these magazines will provide access to over 1,000 academic resources. The curriculum supports struggling students with online component providing audio articles, videos and colorful and engaging weekly readers that they are able to keep and share with their family.
After My students engage in this academic activities they are eager to share the information with the principal as they leave campus.
My students love not only to share the information they gained but also to quiz others.
As an educator there is nothing better than catching your students educating others on knowledge they have acquired, this is when you know that they truly own the knowledge.
