Our students attend a rural Pre-K-4 school in northwestern Wisconsin. Over half of our students come from economically disadvantaged households. The school library media center serves an important purpose of providing resources for our students. The only experience that students will have with STEM in our community is when the school provides the resources.
Help me give my students hands-on experience with STEM, problem-solving, critical thinking, and engineering thinking skills.
These kits would provide a link between children's literature and engineering.
My Project
Students will read fairy tales from around the world. After reading different versions of The Three Billy Goats Gruff students will practice their engineering skills using these kits to build bridges for the goats to cross.
Career discovery begins at an early age.
I would like my students to know the variety of math and science careers that are available for them. By gaining confidence at an early age with math and science it builds self esteem and makes STEM careers possible for my students.
With any hands on activities I try to include an element of literacy. The fairy tale kits not only allow for literacy, but for global literacy by allowing students to experience literature from around the world.
