Our classroom is focused on life skills, from understanding how our brain works, to real-world math, applying the novels that we read to our own lives, and hands-on projects. We focus on learning to be our best selves through trial, error, and reflection. The traditional classroom still plays a central role in this pursuit. However, our students, facing many limits in terms of financial resources and exposure to certain walks of life, need more.
Our students need hands-on, concrete experiences with the environments and skills that they could have as the center of fulfilling adult lives.
That is what our classroom is here to provide.
My Project
My students need Elegoo UNO microcontroller and component kits so that they can apply, not just understand, electronics. Beyond simply reading about or assembling electronics, our students need to engineer their own devices. This means that they will need to plan, create, test, and improve with a goal in mind. The Elegoo Uno kits allow our to integrate electronics knowledge all the way from simple circuitry to optimizing coding. It gives our class the ability to apply what they are already learning during coding class, such as conditionals, repeats, and types of parameters, and apply those skills by controlling concrete outputs such as sensors and motors.
The Elegoo kits contain a microprocessor which is a generic version of an Arduino, and as such less than half the price, while still being compatible with the full array of components and applications that work with Arduino.
This gives us access to hundreds of free online projects that we can use to build our skills before developing our own ideas.
