Help me give my students the chance to learn the piano and create! These pianos will allow them to learn an instrument in the traditional way and create with all the options available.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
GWES is full of talented boys and girls with supportive families! We are in a low income urban school district where violence is prevalent. For many, music education is a great way for them to express themselves, try something new, utilize their skills learned in math and reading, and learning about the world through music education! This project will give the students the tools to learn an instrument, create, and perform. They will be challenged and have to problem solve, persevere, and work hard. I am also hoping music will be used as a way to help them express their emotions in a positive way. To use creating music as a way to process and express their feelings in a positive way. These instruments are what we need to help them achieve!
My Project
All students need an instrument to explore and practice. I have 10 piano keyboards with large classes. Often students only are able to work on a piano for five minutes to practice for a performance or work on their own creation. This doesn't give them enough time to really learn and practice music.
All of my classes will be able to use the piano keyboards.
For my primary classes they will learn songs but also will help with letter recognition and reading! My intermediate classes will learn the basics and also how music can effect our mood and also serve as a stress reliever. In addition, they will be able to create songs to express themselves in a healthy way.
