I teach in a small rural town. Our school is K-12 and the interaction between the older students and younger ones is awesome! I have a class size of 13 students and I love that I am able to really get to know each and every one of them on a more personal level. My students love to be active and engaged. I love their curiosity and eagerness to learn! I love the look on their faces when they enter the classroom in the morning. They are excited to see me and their friends and they are ready to learn!
My Project
I would like to give my students the option to choose a spot to work where they learn best. Some of my students have such a hard time sitting in their chairs ... and who can blame them! They rock in them and many times end up falling out of their seats. We do a lot of moving around during the day, but they need more options. They should be able to learn in an environment that is comfortable and works best for them. Children need to move. Movement will help keep them focused, alert, and more engaged. Flexible seating also gives kids a little more control and responsibility in their learning. I would like to get some wobble stools and seat cushions so the kids can have some movement while sitting in their seats. I would also like some floor seats so kids can choose a place around the room to work with a clipboard.
