Students in my school come from very diverse backgrounds, both ethnically and economically. We are a suburban school with a large population of learning disabled students. We also have many English language learners in our school. Despite the students' struggles, they love science and do well understanding the material due to the hands-on method of teaching.
My elementary students learn science through hands-on, minds-on activities!
We focus on STEM and follow the Next Generation Science Standards. Students love connecting what they learn in science to real-world problems and creating solutions to those problems.
My Project
Students love to learn about what they eat! These materials, the raised garden bed, soil, and seeds, will help get our garden started!
Growing herbs will give the students a chance to use their senses to smell, feel, and taste the benefits of growing their own food.
I think the raised bed will make it easier for students to work in the garden and having the starter pots will allow students to watch their seeds sprout before putting them in the garden.
Herbs are great for students to start with because they have such great scents and can be brought inside and kept year round.
