Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a second grade ENL teacher. This year I have a wonderful group of 24 students. While having academic discussions I noticed that my students like talking about current events. They are interested and more engaged when talking about real life situations and events. I especially enjoy their conversations about how they personally relate to a topic. A great way to expose them to current events is through TIME for Kids. I'm interested in purchasing a subscription for all the second grade students in our school.

My Project

A great way to expose students to real life events is through reading TIME for Kids magazine. I noticed that my students are very interested in talking about current events.

Time for Kids will expose students to authentic journalism and a chance to practice their right to learn more about their world.

I hope for my students to be more concerned and caring citizens.

I plan to use TIME for Kids during literacy, small group and guided reading lessons.

I'm certain my students will enjoy practicing their listening, reading, writing and discussion skills by reading TIME for kids with me and with each other.
