Leaping Laptops! Our class is decorated in a frog theme. And we are always hopping in our second grade room and leaping into new projects! From habitats designed with authentic materials for our researched zoo animals to multicultural artwork and green screen videos, we are always busy learning.
My students are second graders at a diverse, low socioeconomic school.
The students love to explore, participate in hands-on activities, and read. They appreciate all opportunities given to them and choose to extend their learning through projects and research. Our students are becoming technology gurus. They create green screen and movie maker videos, blog on our class webpage, and add to discussion forums on Epals. We are in the process of learning to email and Skype with our pen pals in England and Thailand. My seven and eight year olds are definitely 21st century learners, tech savvy and globally aware!
My Project
The two chrome books will be a welcome addition to our class computer station. The technology will be utilized daily in several ways! Blogging and posting projects on our class website gives the parents and community an insight into our daily learning.
During math, students can visit pathfinders I've created on my class website. Instruction can be differentiated to enrich and remediate students on math skills in a fun way.
During literacy, students can post book reviews on our blog. They can visit sites to listen to books online. Pathfinders can also be created to tailor students' comprehension strategy practice to their individual needs.
In social studies and science, we will use the chrome books to explore the world. From sharing student-created digital storybooks with our Epals in different parts of the world to email, online collaboration is within our fingertips. Chrome books also allow my students to access information when their questions and wonder surpass my knowledge!

As an educator, it will give me a wonderful resource to differentiate instruction and deepen the thinking of my students.
