My students are between the ages of six and seven and come from various backgrounds. The school is a Title One school. Many students receive free or reduced rate lunch and breakfast. There are also many students who receive backpack food on the weekend. Although many students face challenges day to day, they want to learn and are ready to try their best each day!
They are growing and learning in the same small, tight knit, school community that inspired me to be a teacher.
They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers and questioners. They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet.
My Project
These books and other Leapfrog materials will be used daily in a center. They will be used to promote fluency, comprehension and literary elements. Children will get to select a book if they are in the center. They will then choose to have the story read to them or read the story on their own with help available for unknown words. They will then interact with the book to answer questions and learn about the topic of the book. This center will do away with the traditional listening center that children just sit at and listen to a story.
With the assistance of the LeapFrog LeapReaders and the variety of books, my struggling students will be able to have the support they need to become more fluent and confident readers.
I want my students to become confident, independent readers before they leave first grade. Your donation would give my students one more opportunity to reach this goal. Please consider supporting my students. Thank you in advance for your generous donation.
