How are the children? I think at times we often loose sight of what is important! The children in my class are multi-age first and second graders and vary from pre-primers to reading at a 5th grade level. We are looking for a way to engage all readers at each individuals level.
The school is becoming increasingly diverse, with an rise in free and reduced to 51% and growing.
They students are very eager learners and highly engaged by technology. Within my class of first and second graders - we alone have students from several countries; with languages varying from Oromo, Somali, Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Russian, and English. Included in the class are several students with special needs and three who receive speech services, and eleven English Language Learners.
My Project
The idea of having Leapfrog Tag readers in the classroom opens many doors for the students. This system will allow for small groups, centers, reteaching specific skills, and can be independent for lower readers while giving them the correct word and pronunciation. Students will learn skills such as; reading from left to right, top to bottom, as well as tactical skills of visual and auditory.
This project will be one that will not only serve this years class, but will be available for classes to come as an enrichment to their literacy learning experience.
Thank you for supporting our class and allowing us the capabilities to engage all readers!
