Leaping Into Language For Literacy

My students need LeapPad Phonemic Awareness activities, Interactive Decodable books, and vocabulary learning systems for a small language-to-literacy lab.

I provide direct and inclusive speech-language-listening services for approximately 120 children per year at multiple school sites. Many of these children have delayed literacy skills in addition to or related to communication disorders/delays.

I know that the best carryover of speech sounds, vocabulary, grammar and listening skills is through reading. I try to provide a structured-learning environment in which the students rotate through listening, articulation, language, literacy, work-with-teacher, sensory and celebration stations. The children love the independence of reinforcing their skills by teaching each other at their own station space.

The LeapPad interActive books give the students motivating activities to improve reading while practicing their communication goals. Since I work primarily with small groups for short periods, 4 LeapPads will benefit approximately 50 students over the course of each day.

Your donation will help my students become independent learners and better readers. The immediate feedback and reinforcement of their literacy skills will encourage them to practice more and feel good about their success.
