My students need four LeapPads with protection plans (to keep them working great), and two app center cards to fill their LeapPads with great reading games and apps!
"I Can Read" gives me goosebumps! When a young kindergarten student comes to me to read a book, its a joyful experience! A primary goal of teaching young students is how to read, but its more gratifying when the students know they have become a reader! In my kindergarten classroom, our day always begins with good mornings and a great book!
Our school is a Title I (high poverty) with 97% of students on free or reduced lunch.
Many of the children do not have books or computers at home and can't wait to come to school and get cozy with a great book.
My Project
Having the set of LeapFrog tablets will allow for varied structures of literacy readiness in my classroom. The learning is interactive, engaging and fun. They will be used is as a reading literacy center within the class to compliment whole group instruction. Also the tablets will be used to differentiate instruction and allow students to practice foundational skills that are necessary to become a fluent reader. The activities, games and tools built-in to the LeapFrog tablet will provide that differentiation that my students need the most.
For some of our students, this will be the first exposure to all of the resources available on the Internet in a safe kid friendly way.
This will allow them to use technology that grows as their knowledge and imagination develops. This will make learning fun, and assist in developing lifelong passion for reading and learning.
