This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Some of students are English language learners who are in the 3rd grade. I have 15 students who in addition to learning English also face daily challenges of acclimating to a new culture, neighborhood, clothing, social situations and even food.
They are students who are kind, diverse, energetic, motivated, and genuinely love to learn.
They come from a variety of cultures in countries ranging from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Yemen, and more. My students are some of the nicest people you will ever meet and they deserve the opportunity to show everyone what they can do despite the language barrier.
They feel comfortable and confident when they come to ENL class because they are all working towards the common goal of becoming proficient English speakers while embracing their native languages and backgrounds.
My Project
These materials will benefit 3rd grade English Language Learner Students who are struggling to access the content area texts. These texts are recommended by for various lexical levels. These texts will allow students who are below grade level to access the text based questions about frogs. These texts will help students become proficient readers and writers in English as well as help them meet state standards in ELA. Currently, we do not have texts that reach all students across their various lexical levels. This means that students who are below grade level in reading are unable to work independently with the current texts. With the texts requested, all students of all lexical levels would be able to reach the same goal.
