My students come from extreme poverty, some are homeless, many speak English as a second language (if at all), but ALL of my students have such great hearts and big dreams! Help them to continue dreaming by putting books in our classroom that actually read to the students.
I teach in a socio-economic disadvantaged area in North Carolina.
My students can see the city skyline from where they live and they dream of playing football for the Panthers, basketball with the Bobcats, and of course being doctors, lawyers, and maybe even the next president!
All my children are curious and want to hear me read everything they pick up, unfortunately I can't. Many of my second grade students are reading well below grade level. With your support we could get the tag reader that will read along with my students. I bought one and four books, now everybody wants to use it!
When they read along they actually make connections to the words they are hearing spoken. Usually they are even able to pass an accelerated reader test after using the tag reader to read a book (when I play cassettes they don't follow along as well).
My Project
With your support I'll have a class set of tag readers! Students will be able to move the pen and hear the words spoken. They will be able to read books above their reading level and learn about new things.
The tag reader is awesome, my students are really motivated to learn to read and speak English and this is a great way to help them learn. With your generous support we will be opening another door and educating these children with hands-on activities that really engage my students. Remember, these children are tomorrow's leaders and we all want them to be fluent readers who are well educated. Please show my students that you care by funding this project!
