I teach third grade in Chicago. My students love to read and write. Unfortunately, there are not many books at home or opportunities to go to the library. This puts my students at a disadvantage when it comes to reading. That's where the classroom comes in. I have worked very hard to build my classroom library with many genres and levels of books. My students independently read every day while I work with small reading groups. They love independent reading time. They choose "Just Right" books~~ books that are not too easy or too challenging. After they finish reading a book, they write me a letter in their Reader's Notebooks. They summarize, make predictions, ask questions, make connections... There are some students in my class with special needs, especially when it comes to reading. They are at least a year or two below grade level. I have LEAP PADS in my classroom (thanks to a wonderful donor) and now I would like to purchase some books to go along with the program. This would help those struggling readers gain self-confidence in their abilities to read. It would be so appreciated by all of the students (and their teacher)! Thank you so much for looking at our proposal and investing in the future!
