Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 20 enthusiastic kindergarteners, 13 of whom are English Language Learners. This is my second year teaching Kindergarten, and I am always finding new ways to engage students in learning - visually, kinesthetically, auditorily, and technologically. One resource I would like to make available to my students is LeapFrog systems that they can use to either reinforce basic skills or to challenge themselves. These would be used during our centers time while I am working with small groups. With six LeapFrog systems, students would be able to rotate into the center at least twice a week. The students who would benefit most from this resource are the ones who have not yet mastered their alphabet and phonics skills. The LeapFrog systems give immediate feedback and would motivate these students to learn the alphabet and the sounds of each letter. Students learn in different modalities. I have been able to provide ways for my students to learn by moving their bodies and manipulating objects, by looking at realia, and by singing songs. I would like to also be able to provide a way for my students to learn through technology by putting these LeapFrog Systems in their hands.
