I am a first year teacher at E.E. Miller Elementary school. E. E. Miller is a very diverse school located in Fayetteville, NC. Our school is located very close to Fort Bragg. Because of the close proximity, our school has many families moving in and out throughout the school year. My classroom is a centers-based classroom that focuses on integrating all subjects, technology, and hands-on, individualized activities. I have put a major focus on reading and writing skills in my classroom to prepare my kindergarten for the first grade. As a first year teacher, I am limited to the technological resources I have available to my students. I would like to provide my students with more activities that encourage self-monitored/self-guided learning. The Leap Desk workstation that I am hoping to receive will enhance each of these activities and skills that I have focused on. It is able to give individualized instruction on letter recognition and formation, phonics, phonemic awareness, and concepts of word. This workstation provides immediate audio feedback to monitor and motivate student's progress. Also, this workstation has a program that will enable me to assess my class's early literacy skills. This assessment program will save time and provide meaningful individualized printouts evaluating each student's skills.
