Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a Title I school in a low socioeconomic area of Northern California where the majority of the students are English language learners. Although each of my students come to school with different backgrounds and sets of experiences, they all have one thing in common, they are expected to come to school ready to learn and by the end of the year master the first grade common core standards and be ready for second grade. As their teacher, this is my number one priority!
My Project
My first grade students love to read! Every time I bring a new book into our classroom library they are thrilled and can't wait for me to read it to them at the carpet. I would love to replace some of the old, ripped, and torn books in my classroom library and replace them with new ones.
The books that I have chosen are books that are meaningful and applicable.
Books that have characters that look like my students, and ones that share similar adversaries, as well as successes. Books that have messages that teach them how to think for themselves, to stand up for what's right, and follow their dreams.
