We had a lot of movement and redistricting occur over the past year. The students I have this year have flocked into our building from over ten different places including other buildings in our district, other local districts and as far away as Albania and Germany!
We are becoming a more diverse group of learners and leaders and I love it!
With this diversity and mix of needs for our students, having the right equipment is essential. We have students with limited access to technology at home, students with special needs that could greatly benefit from technology for various supports and we also have a unique situation in 3rd grade where students are required to do standardized testing in the spring. Having computer skills is essential to their lives and learning!
My Project
My current students are at a disadvantage! The world is becoming more and more tech oriented and the money that is given to pubic education is lessening.
We want students to have the technological skills for the future but we do not have the resources or funding on our own!
I would like to start gathering Chrome Books for classroom use. These Chrome Books would allow our students to have every day, easy access to technology.
Easy access to technology means they will be able to build their typing skills, which is a 3rd grade requirement and have greater access to math and reading programs that support their learning. Having classroom computers, versus our current school carts, also means that students will have constant access to these tools rather than having to schedule a time. Some of my students would benefit from using technology each day in writing, for example, to type their stories and assist with fine motor issues or visual impairments and having our classroom Chrome Books would allow for this to take place.
